Homeowners Insurance – What is covered: It is very important to make sure you have the proper amount of coverage as well as the right type of coverage according to your needs. For Example, hurricanes and floods are not covered under your basic policy, however additional coverages can be purchased to cover hurricanes and floods. The agents at Solid Insurance are always there to make sure to answer any of your questions and to provide you with the coverages you need to protect yourself and your home. Here are the basic parts to a Homeowners Insurance policy.

Types of Home Insurance Coverages:

Medical Expense:This type of insurance coverage takes care of medical expenses. Coverage is set at a specific amount per person for injuries sustained on your premises to persons other than the insured or elsewhere. With this type of insurance, payment is made regardless of who is liable. For example, a family member injuring someone or your dog biting someone.
Personal Property:This pays for your personal items that may have been damaged or destroyed by a covered loss. This may include furniture, appliance, electronics and clothing. Not all items are covered on your policy or may have very limited coverage. This includes jewelry, money, firearms, antiques, furs and paintings. Additional insurance coverage may be purchased for these items.
Liability Coverage:This coverage will protect your assets and cover legal costs if you get sued because you or a family member is at-fault for causing injuries to someone or damaging their property. This coverage is usually anywhere from $100,000 to 1 million dollars. If more coverage is needed, an umbrella policy may be purchased to cover higher limits of insurance.
Loss of Use:This will pay for living expenses if you have to move out of your home because of a covered loss until it is restored. For example, a fire that damaged your home that would take 6 months to restore, then your insurance policy would pay for you to live elsewhere until the home is restored.
Other Structures:These are structures that are not attached to your dwelling such as a shed, detached garage as well as a fence.
Dwelling:The structure of your home is covered under this section. This also includes wiring, plumbing, heating and air conditioning as long as the cause of loss is covered on your policy.
